HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company Ltd. is a joint venture between HDFC Ltd., India's premier Housing Finance Institution and ERGO International AG, the primary insurance entity of Munich Re Group. The Company offers a complete range of general insurance products ranging from Motor, Health, Travel, Home and Personal Accident in the retail space and customized products like Property, Marine and Liability Insurance in the corporate space.

Over the span of two months, I created an Application Programming Interface (API) using Python programming language - the API checks for a unique hidden for a unique, hidden, encrypted value in the excel sheet provided to salespeople by underwriting teams (UW), validates the quotation templates for various products like Fire and Engineering, reads the data from the excel sheet, and transfers it to respective tables in the Oracle database for further conversion of the quote into policy.

The API reduced the policy proposal generation time from at least 1.5 hours per policy to at most 2 minutes per policy

This internship demonstrated how automation can speed up the policy issuance process for commercial products and reduce data entry errors.
